Viapass launches CO2 category calculator – Transport media

Must read

On July 1, 2026, several changes will take place regarding the kilometer charge, including the addition of a CO2 component to the rates in Flanders. The amount of this CO2 component is determined by the CO2 class of the vehicle, a fairly complex subject for which Viapass has developed a tool for fleet managers.

In Brussels, the kilometer tax rates will be ‘normally’ indexed, while in Wallonia they will be adjusted (upwards, of course) in accordance with the decision of the SOFICO Board of Directors of November 28, 2025, which was approved by the Walloon government on April 2, 2026.

However, it is in Flanders that the rate increase will be most noticeable (up to 40% for a 40-ton Euro 6 tractor combination). Until recently, it was quite difficult to know whether certain combustion engine trucks would qualify for a (slight) reduction in rates in emission class 3. Now all users will have to register their CO₂ emission class as a new parameter.

Viapass has therefore put a calculator online with which a fleet manager, with a registration certificate, a Customer Information File (CIF) and the Certificate of Conformity (CoC), can determine with certainty in which class the vehicle falls. The OBU parameters must then be adjusted via the service provider, by providing the document generated by the Viapass calculator.

These are the new mileage tax rates from 1/7/2026:
