UK Garage and Bodyshop Event launches student programme to mark National Careers Week

Must read

The UK Garage and Bodyshop Event is marking National Careers Week with the launch of a dedicated student programme aimed at inspiring the next generation of automotive talent. Delivered in partnership with Autotech Recruit and School of Thought, the initiative is designed to connect young people with the wide range of career opportunities across the garage, bodyshop and wider automotive aftermarket sectors.

Held at the NEC Birmingham on 3-4 June 2026, the event will welcome students from across the UK to take part in a tailored programme addressing the industry’s ongoing skills shortage. With rapid technological change reshaping automotive roles, the programme aligns with the event’s broader mission to promote long‑term workforce development and encourage new entrants into the sector.

The student agenda offers a mix of interactive and practical sessions, including a podcast‑style discussion on emerging technologies and career pathways. One of the highlights will be a live interview with 12‑year‑old Ben, who is rebuilding a Mini with his father, providing an inspiring example of early engagement in automotive engineering. Students can also access workshops designed to help them understand how to enter the aftermarket and build sustainable, rewarding careers.

Event director Joanne Knowles said the programme reflects the essence of National Careers Week by “opening eyes to opportunity” and giving students access to real stories and real career pathways. “The automotive sector offers a huge range of rewarding careers,” she said, “and we know there’s a skills gap that needs addressing. By working with partners like AutoTech Recruit and School of Thought, we’re giving students access to real stories, real people and real pathways into the industry.”

Attendees will also have access to the Ignite Arena, an interactive space showcasing opportunities across the aftermarket. Registration is free, and students can sign up for the programme via the event website.
