Brussels Airport, Liege Airport and Ostend-Bruges Airport will develop a new digital platform for customs procedures surrounding freight transport. This initiative is coordinated by Air Cargo Belgium and LGG Connect and aims to strengthen the attractiveness of Belgium as an international platform for air freight.
Air freight companies currently still partially exchange customs declarations for import, export and transit with the customs and excise authorities via the current IT system PaperLess Customs and Excise (PLDA). In a few months they will be able to do this with this new digital medium through a new portal on their airport’s data platform: BRUCloud for the freight community at Brussels Airport and LGG Tracking at Liege Airport. Both platforms will be connected separately to the electronic customs systems for the processing and follow-up of the declarations. The customs response is then sent back to the companies via the portal.
“This uniform approach will make customs procedures for cargo more efficient and further strengthen Belgium’s position as a logistics hub for international trade, as it will become even easier and more attractive for foreign companies to import and export through Belgian airports,” said Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport, Freek De Witte, director of Air Cargo Belgium, and Laurent Jossart, CEO of Liege Airport.
