At the initiative of Rob Beenders (Vooruit), federal minister responsible for combating fraud, checks will be carried out this year at various places in the country where carriers from Central Europe park their trucks during the end-of-year festivities. However, the results of these checks have not been communicated to us.
The fact that these checks are being organized before Christmas is already satisfying to the UBT-FGTB union. “For years we have been sounding the alarm about the ‘Christmas parking lots’, one of the many symptoms of social dumping. Abandoned trucks that bear witness to the exploitation of drivers. Places where companies that systematically and deliberately violate social and labor legislation leave their trucks. But also the ideal place for the inspection services to carry out targeted checks. And that has finally happened today,” says Deputy Federal Secretary Tom Peeters happily. “We would therefore like to expressly thank Rob Beenders and his inspection services for finally responding to our long-standing call to carry out inspections on these ‘Christmas car parks’. This approach is not only essential for the protection of drivers, but also for the many transport companies that apply the rules correctly. Today, they are being pushed out of the market by rogue players who gain their competitive advantage from systematically circumventing the legislation and exploiting drivers.”
