For years we’ve known Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) as a manufacturer of off-highway tyres, but in recent years the company has begun to branch out into other businesses. In 2017, BKT announced plans to establish a carbon black plant at its new facility in Bhuj, India, and last year shared its intention to enter the car and truck tyre segments. Management formalised this two-pronged development at a meeting in Mumbai today, unveiling the reorganisation of its business into two brands, BKT Tyres and BKT Carbon. At the same time, BKT confirmed its entry into the passenger car tyre market, starting in India.
