Yokohama Rubber held a seminar in June with the Surat Thani branch of the Rubber Authority of Thailand (RAOT) to help Thai natural rubber farmers improve productivity and quality. Fifty farm households from Surat Thani participated. Yokohama Rubber provided specialized fertilizer developed with RAOT’s expertise at no cost.
The seminar featured lectures on selecting and planting rubber seedlings, using fertilizer effectively, and preventing foreign substance contamination in natural rubber. Attendees agreed to monitor sample trees for changes in physical properties and seasonal effects. Farmers will also support a year-round follow-up survey, Yokohama said.
Background of Yokohama Rubber Thai Farmers Initiatives
Since 2020, Yokohama Rubber has partnered with RAOT to economically support natural rubber farmers and enhance supply chain traceability. The initiative aligns with the company’s Procurement Policy for Sustainable Natural Rubber, it said. The Surat Thani seminar marks the ninth event of its kind and leverages the presence of Y.T. Rubber Co., Ltd., Yokohama’s local processing company.
