The Tire Industry Project (TIP), a CEO-led coalition representing 10 tire manufacturers, released its latest sustainability report on Oct. 23. The report outlined member progress on environmental, social, and governance goals from 2021 to 2024. The report, “Sustainability Driven: TIP’s Progress Towards SDGs” tracks performance across 16 KPIs and seven pathways within the Tire Sector SDG Roadmap. The data aligns industry actions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Tire Industry Project Sustainability Report Findings
TIP members reported a 26% reduction in CO₂ intensity, marking the lowest level since 2009. The group also recorded a 121% increase in renewable electricity use and a 14% reduction in water withdrawals over the same period.
All TIP members remained active in the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) and submitted annual reports under its mandatory framework. The collaboration supports responsible sourcing practices and transparency in natural rubber supply chains, TIP said.
By the end of 2024, 80% of TIP members had established time-bound responsible sourcing targets. That’s more than double the figure reported in 2021. Seventy percent integrated these targets into supplier contracts, and 30% conducted third-party audits to validate compliance.
Research and Circularity Advancements
From 2021 to 2024, TIP-sponsored studies on tire and road wear particles (TRWP) increased by 75%, while citations by the scientific community grew 175%. The report also highlights the development of the End-of-Life Tire (ELT) Management Hierarchy. TIP said this supports circularity and helps governments and industry stakeholders implement more sustainable end-of-life practices for tires.

This drives change that extends across the value chain. As TIP marks its 20th anniversary, it’s inspiring to see how far stakeholder collaboration and science have taken us. And how much more we can achieve together in the years ahead.”
TIP began collecting and publishing shared sustainability KPIs in 2016, establishing a unified framework in its 2021 report, “Sustainability Driven: Accelerating Impact with the Tire Sector SDG Roadmap.” TIP said the 2024 update builds on that foundation, offering a look at how the industry aligns with global sustainability goals.
