According to Vytenis NoruĊĦis, CEO of ClassTrucks (the used vehicle specialist of the Lithuanian group Girteka), the European used truck market will reach a certain maturity in 2025 after years of volatility. He also notes certain changes in purchasing behavior, in an economic context that is not yet growing again.
By 2025, the European market for used trucks will have grown and, according to the specialist agency Imarc Group, represent a total value of 7 billion euros.
“2025 is the first truly stable year after several years of price fluctuations and supply restrictions. Buyers and sellers are finally in a relatively healthy environment, where it is possible to make long-term plans without haste. That is a healthy situation for everyone,” says Vytenis NoruĊĦis, who notes that the hasty and opportunistic purchases of recent years have given way to more strategic management: “Three years ago, buyers focused exclusively on price. That remains an important factor today decisive factor, but the maintenance history, fuel consumption and condition of the vehicle play a greater role. Buyers well understand that the lowest price does not always mean the lowest total cost, and as the difference between environmental and road taxes continues to increase, a fleet of recent second-hand vehicles offers operators more opportunities to reduce their costs. There is therefore a clear preference for high-quality, well-maintained second-hand trucks.â
Mr. NoruĊĦis also notes that buyers are slightly less interested in reconditioned trucks and more interested in trucks with lower equipment levels. On the other hand, the fact that older trucks will be taxed even more heavily in the future based on their CO2 emissions could contribute to a rejuvenation of the average age of the European vehicle fleet.
According to Imarc Group, the European used truck market is expected to grow by 4.5% per year between 2026 and 2034.
