PostNL tests robots in parcel delivery

Must read

PostNL is experimenting with different types of robots, such as robot dogs, serving robots and humanoid robots, to investigate how technology can support the delivery process. In Leerdam, robot dogs were used yesterday to deliver packages to the front door. The company is also testing serving robots at PostNL points and humanoid robots that fill parcel lockers.

With these tests, the logistics service provider wants to gain insight into how robotics can ease the work of delivery drivers and improve service for customers. According to e-commerce director Stephan van den Eijnden, the first results are promising, although the technology is not yet ready for widespread use.

Robots have been used in PostNL’s sorting centers for years to sort packages smartly and quickly. In 2021, PostNL opened a high-tech and robotic sorting center in Nieuwegein, especially for small packages.
