Mileage charge: the figures for 2025

Must read

Viapass has (discreetly) published the figures on the kilometer charge for the fourth quarter. This makes it possible to make some interesting comparisons with the year 2024.

In total, revenues from the Viapass system amounted to 1.06 billion euros in 2025. That is 50 million more than in 2024 and amounts to an increase of 4.5%. Since this percentage is higher than inflation (and therefore also higher than the indexation of the rates) and the taxable network has not been expanded in 2025, this means that slightly more kilometers were traveled in 2025 than in 2024. However, the trend was downwards in the first half of the year, but reversed in the second half of the year, with noticeable peaks in traffic in September and December.

However, the increase in income is quite unevenly distributed across the regions: it is virtually zero in Brussels and lower in Wallonia (+ 2.9%, which exactly corresponds to the indexation on January 1, 2025) than in Flanders (+ 5.1%). It is therefore in Flanders that the number of kilometers traveled has increased.

For two quarters, Viapass has also been counting the number of emission-free vehicles driving on the network. From 318 in July, that number rose to 497 in December.

Finally, the origin of the trucks paying the kilometer charge shifts slightly in favor of vehicles registered in Belgium: 47.4% in the fourth quarter, while this percentage was 47% in 2024 and 46% in 2017.
