Mercedes-Benz Trucks is launching a new generation of his ServotWin steering system developed by Bosch. The new system is based on the principle of coupling ignition and is used in trucks where the steering axle is heavily loaded.
The new ServotWin system is based on a double steering system: there is a hydraulic reinforcement and an electric motor with individual power supplies. The new Servotwin therefore combines the steering couple exercised by the driver with an extra electronically controlled torque. According to Mercedes-Benz Trucks, this facilitates maneuvering in the event of a standstill, it improves steering precision, especially at high speeds, and increases stability when driving straight. Drivers will also appreciate the active return from the steering wheel to the middle position after a bend. The driver can choose from three different support modes.
The new system also scores points in terms of weight (the buffer battery is no longer necessary) and maintenance (the buffer battery no longer needs to be replaced every three years).
