The Hankook Gauge Index data shows that over half (54%) of American drivers plan to purchase new tires before the end of the year. The survey also found that drivers prefer American-made products and aim to stay prepared for changing road conditions.
The data found that 64% of men plan to buy new tires soon, while 38% of women say they’ll replace their tires only when absolutely necessary.

According to Hankook Gauge Index data, the appeal of tire rebate programs continues to grow. In fact, 35% of drivers purchased tires during a rebate offer. More than 60% say they would consider such programs in the future to help manage costs.
Younger drivers stand out as the most deal-driven. Gen Z and millennial drivers are more likely to replace their tires when a sale or rebate is available than Gen X and Boomers (12% vs. 7%).
Seasonal readiness and regional climate shape many tire decisions, according to Hankook. Nearly two-thirds (63%) of respondents plan to buy all-season tires, while one in four (25%) are choosing all-weather options.
Midwestern drivers show the highest preference for all-season tires (69%), while Southern residents lead in choosing all-weather products (28%).
Hankook said the Gauge Index tracks how Americans think and feel about driving. The latest edition, conducted August 14–19, polled 1,100 randomly selected adults aged 18 and older.
