Beddeleem starts using Scania BEV

Must read

Beddeleem, a specialist in building furnishings based in Nazareth-De Pinte, has put an electric Scania tractor into use. The green energy used to charge the vehicle largely comes from our own production.

Beddeleem specializes in mobile walls, climate ceilings, doors and project furniture. For deliveries to its customers, the company has one truck, which is now a Scania BEV with R-cab. Beddeleem chose a Scania BEV with a battery capacity of 560 kWh. An electric forklift is mounted at the rear, which can be charged via the battery between two deliveries.

Wim De Winne, logistics manager at Beddeleem, did not have to adjust his planning when switching to electric driving. “We use our truck for short journeys, while longer distance transports are carried out by our regular transport partners. We only cover an average of about 350 kilometers per day and the Scania’s range, which is more than 500 km, is more than sufficient for our needs.”

To charge the new Scania BEV, Beddeleem provided a DC charging installation with a capacity of 200 kW, which uses 100% green energy. “Back in 2011, we installed 4,200 solar panels on the roof of our buildings. These cover 71% of our total annual electricity demand. In 2022, that figure was still at 97%, but due to the electrification of our passenger car fleet and the expansion of our machine park, our annual electricity demand has increased. We purchase the remainder of the required capacity through green energy contracts. On the other hand, the fossil fuel consumption of our own fleet has now been greatly reduced and deliveries with our truck are now completely complete. based on renewable energy sources,” says Anne De Coninck, Sustainability Officer at Beddeleem.
