If you’re wondering why some serpentine belt and tensioner replacements require two technicians, it’s a combination of factors. The first is the belt length that wraps around the alternator, AC compressor, water pump, and several other pulleys. The other obstacle is the packaging on most modern engines, which leaves very little room to route the serpentine belt and move the tensioner. It’s even worse if the new tensioner comes out of the box fully extended.
