The weeks-long strike at bpost will weigh at least 15 million euros on operating profit, parent group bnode announced today in the margin of its first quarter results. The social actions are currently at a standstill, but there is still no agreement. Trade unions, management and social mediators will resume discussions today.
Over the past five weeks, staff have campaigned against plans to increase working hours to two hours in order to better respond to the parcel market. This caused a delivery backlog of more than 16 million letters and up to 700,000 parcels. bpost also states that it lost approximately 3.2 million parcels to competitors.
The estimated impact of approximately EUR 15 million on operating profit, especially in the second quarter, includes lost revenues, quality fines and additional costs for emergency measures and clearing the accumulated backlog. For the whole of 2026, bnode maintains an operating profit of between 165 and 195 million euros.
