- The company cited global supply chain disruptions and rising fuel costs as key factors.
C.H. Robinson Worldwide announced April 1 it is offering free discount fuel cards and free cash advances for fuel to help counter rising costs on its carrier network.
The Eden Prairie, Minn.-based supply chain management company noted that fuel is a major cost for smaller carriers such as those in its network. The move comes in the wake of global supply chain disruptions resulting from the war with Iran. Hostilities have limited access to the Strait of Hormuz, a major artery for fuel shipments.
“With the largest network of carriers in North America, we want to help them get through this unexpected financial strain,” said Michael Castagnetto, president of North American surface transportation at C.H. Robinson. “Today’s environment is especially challenging for the nearly 60% of carriers that are owner-operators. These small businesses carry a huge amount of the goods that come to everybody’s stores, offices, factories and homes.”
Carriers can apply online for the C.H. Robinson Fuel Card, with approval usually taking three to five business days, and the application fee will be waived for April and May. Fees for the in-house cash advance service also will be waived for carriers that select the option of putting it on the fuel card. This allows them to receive up to 60% of their pay after picking up a load.
C.H. Robinson ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest logistics companies in North America.
