Total container traffic though the Port of Los Angeles in February rose nearly 3% as importers brought in goods ahead of the Lunar New Year, when many Asian factories pause production.
While cargo volumes were steady last month, uncertainty is mounting across global supply chains due to President Donald Trump’s changing tariff policies and the conflict in the Middle East, port Executive Director Gene Seroka said at a media briefing.
“There’s real uncertainty across the industry right now,” Seroka said March 12. “Even so, manufacturing flows serving the United States continue to move, and we’re not seeing disruption to U.S.-bound cargo today.”
Dockworkers at the busiest trade gateway in the U.S. moved 824,323 20-foot container units, or TEUs, last month, making it the port’s second-busiest February ever. Import volumes came in at 433,812 TEUs, representing a 5% increase over February 2025, according to port data. Exports reached 116,633 TEUs, an increase of 7%, and while the port processed about 2% less empty containers.
