By 2025, 98.5% of LNG sold in German gas stations was of biological origin. However, total LNG consumption fell from 176,814 tonnes to 166,513 tonnes in the 199 filling stations that offer this alternative fuel. These figures come from the German Association of the Gas and Hydrogen Industry, which regrets that Bio-LNG does not offer any benefits to trucks that use it under the LKW-Maut, while these trucks are virtually climate neutral. The association also recalls that the calculation of greenhouse gas quotas, which will be revised under the Renewable Energy Directive RED III, must be open to all technologies and therefore take into account renewable gaseous fuels such as Bio-LNG.
