It had been known for some time that the Chinese manufacturer Windrose would establish one of its assembly centers in Antwerp, but the precise location of this Windrose Park was not yet known. It comes along the Noorderlaan, on the Romeynsweel site.
Windrose has purchased two plots of land totaling 9.5 hectares in an area intended for logistics and assembly. Part of the site includes an old industrial building that needs to be demolished. “Despite the difficult economic context, there was a lot of interest. The Windrose project stood out for its economic, logistical and strategic added value,” said Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. “With Windrose, we welcome a new innovative player in the field of sustainable mobility to our port. The fact that an electric truck manufacturer has chosen Antwerp as its European headquarters underlines the international appeal of the port of Antwerp-Bruges. This project not only creates additional economic activity and employment, but also strengthens our role as a logistics hub and center for the industry of the future.”
We recently explained the concept of Windrose Park: the Chinese manufacturer will ship parts to Antwerp, where the electric trucks will be assembled. The finished vehicles will then be exported to other European markets and possibly also to North America. This will lead to local logistics and assembly activities and additional container traffic from the Far East.
Windrose Park Antwerp will be developed under a joint venture with Van Wellen Group and could create approximately 200 full-time jobs in the long term. It will be the very first site of this type for Windrose, and CEO Wen Han even plans to make it a model for other future sites in China, France or the United States.
