WFS rolls out AI-driven pallet scanner in European cargo hubs

Must read

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), part of the SATS group, is starting the rollout of an AI-controlled pallet scanner at several major European airports. The decision follows a successful fifteen-week test phase in Copenhagen Airport’s cargo terminal.

The technology, developed by CIND, uses stereo vision cameras and artificial intelligence to automatically measure pallets while they are in motion. Dimensions are recorded in real time, without the need for manual measurements. This not only saves time, but also ensures higher measurement accuracy and consistent data quality.

The system can process both standard and non-standard pallets and can be used for various forms of internal transport, such as forklift trucks, conveyors and AGVs. With a processing capacity of up to 500 pallets per hour, WFS aims to significantly improve flow in its cargo terminals, with benefits for load planning, invoicing and space utilization in aircraft.
