According to Volvo Trucks, this is a world first in the field of trucks: the Swedish manufacturer has refined his I-Roll technology by adding a stop-start function for the engine.
This new feature is based on the i-see technology, which complements I-Roll. As a reminder: I-Roll makes optimal use of the kinetic energy of the vehicle when the driver releases the accelerator pedal. By constantly checking the road data and the bend of the road, the engine is now temporarily switched off when a descent on the route is detected and the vehicle drives faster than 60 km/h. According to Volvo Trucks, this can save up to 1% fuel, depending on topography and the ambient temperature.
This new function will be available on the Volvo FH and FH Aero with a 13-liter diesel engine and customers can order it from September 2025.
