(VIDEO) Jelle Van Koevorden (DFDS): “Give electric trucks a Fast Lane at container terminals!”

Must read

DFDS Belgium has won the Zero Emission Trophy, which is awarded by Transportmedia and Febiac to the company that has registered the most electric trucks in 12 months. General Manager Jelle Van Koevorden takes the opportunity to call on the container terminals of the major ports (including Antwerp), which, according to him, should stimulate the energy transition by shortening waiting times for electric trucks.

DFDS Belgium currently uses 13 electric trucks and numbers 14 and 15 have already been announced. Operationally, the Volvo FH Electric trucks meet expectations, but to achieve a satisfactory TCO, an electric truck must drive as much as possible. “In the automotive sector, we know our customers’ working methods very well and we have been able to think together with them about the best way to shorten waiting times. However, for our container transport activities in Antwerp or Rotterdam, there is a lot of congestion and the slot system does not always work well. So if we were to give priority to electric trucks, it would help us enormously and would be a kind of reward for the investment we have made in these electric trucks.”
