(VIDEO) Colruyt delivers ‘unmanned’ to your home in Leuven

Must read

Collect&Go, the online shopping service of Colruyt Group, today presented the 100% electric unmanned cart that will deliver groceries to your home in the city center of Leuven from mid-May to August. It is the first unmanned vehicle in Belgium to take to public roads and does not adhere to a fixed route. It is controlled via Telenet group’s 5G network and monitored remotely to ensure safety.

Collect&Go will initially use two unmanned vehicles. Remarkable: the unmanned vehicle will be accompanied at the start by two ‘swans’, police officers on a motorcycle. This will remain the case during this first test period,” says Tom De Prater, director of Collect&Go. “Afterwards, the intention is to phase out this guidance, but we must first obtain the necessary permission. We are working towards this together with our partners, so that physical guidance is no longer necessary during a commercial rollout.”

“The test phase starts today,” he continues. “What we will initially do is to further map the city for a number of weeks. This way we ensure that full visibility, safety and everything is well prepared. From May 4 until the end of August, we will then carry out commercial tests. Customers who place their orders online can then choose to have them delivered by an unmanned vehicle. We select those orders and ensure that they are delivered to their home.”
