VERVAEKE introduces the first ADR hydrogen truck in Europe

Must read

VERVAEKE, European market leader in tank transport for the chemical, petrochemical and gas industries, has put the first ADR-approved hydrogen truck into use in Europe. The vehicle is used in collaboration with Nobia. The hydrogen truck is currently running in a pilot project on routes in the Rotterdam region.

“The introduction of the first ADR-certified hydrogen truck in our fleet is more than an innovation milestone, it is proof that sustainability, safety and quality can reinforce each other,” says CEO Frédéric Derumeaux of VERVAEKE. “We want to take the lead in the sector and demonstrate that clean technology can be combined with the strict standards of chemical transport.”

In the project with salt and chemicals producer Nobian, the truck is expected to cover approximately 100,000 km annually. It thus replaces a conventional diesel truck and reduces CO₂ emissions on this route to zero.

“This hydrogen project supports our sustainability ambitions,” says Rein Hendriks, Director of Business Planning at Nobian. “It shows how collaboration across the entire value chain can deliver concrete results.”

The vehicle combines an ADR-certified design with zero tailpipe emissions, fast refueling and a lower vehicle weight than battery-electric alternatives. VERVAEKE expects that hydrogen can play a greater role in ADR transport as the infrastructure is further developed.
