TransMaes puts electric Scania BEV tractor into use

Must read

TransMaes has put its first fully electric tractor into use. The transport company from Hever opts for a Scania BEV and is therefore one of the first Belgian customers of the Scandinavian brand to order an electric tractor.

The investment fits in with the sustainability objectives of customers in the pharmaceutical sector, for which TransMaes carries out specialized temperature-controlled transport. “We were asked by them to deliver as sustainably as possible, and we opted for an electric solution,” says Michael Maes, owner of TransMaes.

After a comparison of different manufacturers, Scania emerged as the most convincing solution. The selected BEV tractor has a battery capacity of 624 kWh, good for a practical driving range of approximately 500 km. This is more than sufficient for daily journeys of 300 to 350 km.

The truck is charged exclusively at TransMaes’ own site, which helps to limit operating costs. Although the investment remains significant, the company expects that lower maintenance costs, savings on mileage charges and more favorable energy costs will compensate for a large part of this. The driver is also positive about the driving comfort and silence of the electric tractor.

TransMaes is now further preparing for the future with a charging plaza with four charging points. In addition, the company is also investigating other ways to reduce CO₂ emissions, including by looking at more sustainable solutions for refrigerated trailers.
