The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management assures that the Truck Tax will start as planned on July 1. Under the leadership of the National Road Transport Agency (RDW), all the pieces of the puzzle are falling into place.
For trucks that only drive in the Netherlands, the Netherlands has selected a main service provider, the equivalent of Satellic in Belgium. This concerns NedLinq, a consortium founded by Via Verde Portugal, Ascendi O&M and Yunex GmbH. NedLinq’s OBU is financed in the same way as Viapass’s: the customer pays a deposit that he gets back when he returns the OBU. However, the registration procedure on www.nedlinq.nl has not yet been activated.
Most Belgian trucks that will drive in the Netherlands are already equipped with an interoperable OBU (EETS). Six OBU suppliers are currently in the process of homologation: TotalEnergies, Axxès, EuroWag, Telepass, Toll4Europe and Tolltickets. These names sometimes hide other trademarks, such as DKV Mobility or Gabriëls. These six service providers would all have to be accredited before the kilometer charge comes into effect.
Direct returns for the transport sector
The truck tax is expected to generate approximately 1.6 billion euros per year (after deduction of operating costs). These net revenues will be partly used to finance measures to promote innovation and sustainability: more than €1.8 billion in various subsidies are foreseen between 2026 and 2030. The majority of this amount (more than 1.6 billion euros) will be spent on the electrification of trucks. For example, from January 27, 2026, a new series of subsidies will be available for the purchase of new electric trucks (with a budget of EUR 78 million) and from January 20 for the financing of private charging infrastructure (with a budget of EUR 87.5 million). In April 2026, subsidies will also be available for hydrogen trucks and filling stations.
