Vandijck Transport carried out a first test with an electric Mercedes Eactros 600 tractor on a route between Belgium and Switzerland. Owner Guy Vandijck, who was behind the wheel himself, is now even more convinced of the correctness of his choice of last year, when he ordered two Eactros 600s from his regular dealer VDH.
Vandijck Transport was one of the first Belgian transport companies that ordered Mercedes Eactros 600s. The delivery of his two copies is also planned for the second quarter of 2025. So with a demonstration vehicle, Guy Vandijck has made a ride in real conditions to serve one of his customers in Switzerland. The ride of more than 1200 km was covered with a total weight of 42 tons and included both urban and mountainous routes.
“The autonomy was really impressive. We drove almost 600 kilometers for the first charging and came back with another 13 % battery. The energy recovery system also proved its efficiency: during descents a large part of the energy could also be regenerated, so that consumption in some places dropped from 150 to 97 kWh/100 with the row, you have to get the row, what the row is concerned, Energy recovery understands, everything goes smoothly, “says Guy Vandijck.
This ride was prepared in collaboration with the Econsulting team of Daimler Truck Belux, to work out a consumption scenario that takes into account the total weight, height differences and the available charging infrastructure on the process. This scenario corresponds to the usage profile of one of the two Eactros 600s that Vandijck Transport ordered. The other vehicle will be used for shuttle services between Limburg and Antwerp. The company is also investigating the installation of DC chargers and solar panels on its site in Herentals.
