Earlier this week, Atlanta-based Stord, a provider of cloud-based, end-to-end supply chain services for e-commerce and omnichannel brands, announced it has completed its acquisition of CEVA Logistics subsidiary, Shipwire, a 3PL and fulfillment platform services for e-commerce shippers and retailers.
Financial terms of the deal, which closed on January 1, were not disclosed.
Shipwire was established in 2006, with an initial focus on warehousing, global shipping, and fulfillment services for small and growing e-commerce brands, and subsequently added to its technology portfolio with full-service fulfillment and shipping services, which are used by various companies that are shipping larger and bulkier products. Verticals in its customer base include apparel, consumer electronics, consumer goods, food & beverage, and health & beauty. The company was acquired by Ingram Micro in 2011 and after that it was acquired and integrated into CEVA Logistics, as part of the 2022 purchase of Ingram Micro’s Commerce and Lifestyle Services Division.
Stord officials said that bringing Shipwire into the fold is the most recent example of the company’s expansion, “as one of the largest fulfillment networks by volume and reach by adding an additional 12 locations, stronger presence in the EU/UK, plus continued access to CEVA’s extensive global network of warehouses through Shipwire’s existing logistics agreements.”
Stord also noted that Shipwire’s technology division was part of the acquisition, adding it is expected to provide additional expertise and capabilities to its order management system with proprietary B2B integrations. And Stord’s AI-enabled platform—already connected to over 200 e-commerce carts, marketplaces, and ERP systems—will be integrated into Stord’s ecosystem, accelerating its AI strategy and expanding on prior investments, including more than 50 key hires through 2025 and early 2026.
Additional key benefits of this acquisition for Stord, cited by the company, include: improved access to the CEVA Logistics global network, as CEVA manages more than 120M square feet of contract logistics warehouse space globally; and newly acquired Shipwire customers can now leverage accelerated AI software development timelines across existing OMS, WMS, EDD, and more, while also utilizing Stord’s consumer experiences and parcel pricing.
“Joining forces with Stord is a decisive move that accelerates our logistics technology and intelligent supply chain vision,” said Marcelo Wesseler, CEO of Shipwire, in a statement. “Our customers, technology, and proprietary AI applications, fit perfectly with Stord’s existing customer base and impressive suite of software offerings. I look forward to a bright future for both the Shipwire teams and customers under Stord’s stewardship.”
Stord CTO Jacob Boudreau told LM that Stord is always evaluating opportunities to expand our offerings and customer base through valuable acquisitions.
“This acquisition furthers our reach into the EU/UK, deepens our existing domestic coverage, and bolsters our AI and technology platforms through their existing tech stack and engineering team,” said Boudreau. “The acquisition helps accelerate our expansive roadmap and is additive to our comprehensive ecommerce enablement suite.”
In terms of the competitive advantages that Shipwire brings to Stord, Boudreau said that
the Shipwire team brings excellent experience and a focus on consumer experiences that aligns with Stord.
“By folding the Shipwire team, systems, and network into Stord we bolster our mission of leveling the playing field for brands of all sizes so they can deliver a world class consumer experience on every order, every time, at scale,” he said.
As for the next steps for integrating Shipwire into Stord, Boudreau said Stord has already begun connecting teams and developing timelines for integrations.
“New customer onboarding has already begun and the overall migration into a cohesive Stord is underway,” he said.
