It’s tough to find a parking space for an 18-wheeler, and the challenge has only gotten worse in the age of mandatory driving-hours limits.
But a Chattanooga, Tennessee, business called Truck Parking Club says it has an easy solution. The company operates an online marketplace that connects property owners around the U.S. with truckers looking for a parking spot. As of last month, the company said its network of “Property Members”—owners looking to monetize unused space—had grown to more than 2,000 locations across all of the lower 48 states, providing over 40,000 reservable truck parking spaces in all.
Truckers find those spots through a website or app. They then make hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly reservations for the spaces, which are owned by trucking companies, repair shops, storage facilities, real estate investors, and the like. “We’re transforming unused space into income-generating property while giving drivers the certainty they need,” Evan Shelley, co-founder and CEO of Truck Parking Club, said in a release.
The company says it is addressing a problem that forces drivers to spend 56 minutes daily searching for safe parking and can cost them $5,500 annually in fees. “This isn’t just about hitting a number—it’s about solving a decades-old problem that costs the trucking industry billions annually,” Shelley said. “Every new location means drivers spend less time searching and more time earning. Our goal is clear: reduce parking search time to under 10 minutes per day.”
