Roadstars Against Cancer raises 21,508 euros for cancer research

Must read

The third edition of Roadstars Against Cancer, this weekend in Zolder, broke all records: 50% more money was raised than last year and more than 150 people were able to learn how to drive a truck in a safe way.

Happy faces! This could be seen after every driving session on the Zolder circuit on Sunday. 150 people, truck enthusiasts and others, were able to get acquainted with driving a truck behind the wheel of the ten vehicles that had been collected with the cooperation of the brands (Volvo Trucks, DAF Trucks, MAN, Scania and Mercedes-Benz), training organizations (FSTL, Drivolution, EDCO) and sponsors such as TVM, DKV Mobility and Hamse Sleepdienst). Roadstars Against Cancer also received support from TLV and Transportmedia.

Some participants were even able to fulfill a childhood dream, such as Paul, the oldest driver for a day at 84 years old. Others may have awakened to a calling as a truck driver… In any case, they were all impressed by the technology in the trucks, by the comfort… and by the ease of driving a modern truck. Under ideal circumstances, that is.

But the main goal of the day was of course to raise money for cancer research, a charity that is particularly close to Marc Van Grootel’s heart. He organizes the event together with our colleague Bram Crombez. And the goal has been amply achieved, because the amount raised has increased from 14,000 to 21,508 euros! “In addition to this positive result, I am also extremely happy with the way in which we introduced the participants and their entourage to the world of transport, the truck and the beautiful profession of a truck driver in a very positive way. My great thanks go to all the supervisors/instructors who have beautifully promoted our sector in an incredibly professional way. I am also very satisfied with the fact that Margaux Bogaert (Radio 2) and Marc Wauters (Yellow jersey wearer Tour de France 2001) helped color our beautiful day,” responded Marc Van Grootel.
