PSA Antwerp and Lineas are launching a direct rail connection between the PSA terminal in Zeebrugge and the North Sea Terminal in Antwerp. The new service, which has been running in both directions three times a week since 2 June, accounts for an annual capacity of 26,000 TEU and is an important step towards more sustainable logistics chains.
The connection offers an alternative in addition to the existing indoor shipping and increases the flexibility for customers of PSA Zeebrugge. “With this expansion of our Node to Network strategy, we strengthen the hinterland connectivity of our terminals,” explains Edward Tah, managing director of PSA Belgium.
Lineas takes care of the full operational version of the railway line, which makes a stopover on the Lineas Mainhub in Antwerp. This turntable consolidates loads and optimizes the utilization of the trains by cleverly combining import and export flows.
Erik van Ockenburg, CEO of Lineas: “This connection is a new milestone in our ambition to anchor rail transport as a reliable and environmentally friendly alternative to goods transport by road.”
