Postal companies celebrate seventh ‘Green Postal Day’

Must read

Today, September 18, 2025, the International Post Corporation (IPC) is organizing ‘Green Postal Day’ for the seventh time, an initiative that has been bringing the post sector more sustainable since 2019. Since the start of their sustainability collaborations, postal companies have already taken considerable steps. For example, the joint SMMS program (Sustainability Measurement and Management System), started in 2019, a follow -up to the earlier EMMS (Environmental Measurement and Monitoring System, and it is evolving to a broader approach to sustainability within the sector.

The most important objectives by 2030 are:

  • at least 50% reduction in COâ‚‚ emissions compared to 2019;
  • Three quarters of energy for own buildings must come from renewable sources;
  • At least half of the fleet must consist of vehicles with alternative fuels, at least 25% of them fully electric;
  • 50% of the packaging must be sustainable;
  • At least 75% of the waste is reused or recycled instead of poured.

The members of the IPC, including Bpost, PostNL and DHL, do not only focus on their own operational process, but also attract suppliers and partners in the pursuit of a sustainable approach, including through sustainable purchases, innovative logistical solutions and a circular approach for packaging material and waste management.
