Port Pass is the new digital access standard for North Sea Port

Must read

The Ghent scale-up Peripass has launched a new digital identity and access platform with Port Pass that thoroughly renews the ISPS-compliant access control in North Sea Port. The platform replaces fragmented and often outdated procedures with one uniform, digital standard for all terminal visitors. The official presentation took place on January 27 in the presence of Federal Minister of Justice and North Sea Annelies Verlinden.

Port Pass focuses on all users of ISPS-regulated port environments, such as drivers, suppliers and employees. Visitors register in advance via a user-friendly digital process, followed by biometric identity verification and real-time checks for port bans. This should ensure greater safety, efficiency and compliance with the stricter legislation resulting from the updated ISPS code and the Maritime Security Act.

According to Peripass, Port Pass offers an answer to the growing challenges surrounding (drug) smuggling, organized crime and geopolitical threats. “We combine the speed that logistics needs with today’s safety requirements,” says CEO Leander Naessens of Peripass. North Sea Port also sees the platform as an important step towards smarter and safer port operations.

The system was developed in collaboration with seven ‘founding customers’ from the port community and with support from, among others, DG Shipping and the National Authority for Maritime Security. Port Pass will go live at 21 terminals in North Sea Port at the end of March. In the next phase, Peripass also wants to roll out the platform in other ports.
