Port of Limburg wants to become the new reference in multimodality

Must read

Located in Genk, along the Albert Canal, Port of Limburg is a brand new inland terminal who wants to establish its name in the maritime world. As the successor to the container activities of the former Haven Genk, the terminal from now on focuses exclusively on containers, with an annual capacity of 350,000 TEU and without bulk or rail activities.

Since June, two River Drones have been providing indoor transports. These innovative vessels, ready for battery-electric drive, emit ten times less CO₂ than a classic inland vessel and can transport containers in four layers. They are controlled semi-autonomous from a control center, except in the port of Antwerp where a captain is still on board. In addition to transport, Port of Limburg profiles itself as a fully -fledged logistics partner: barging, first & last mile road transport, customs formalities and strict compliance with safety standards. Since the start in 2025, the terminal has already attracted numerous companies and has developed into a strategic hub for Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
