Penske Logistics is set to introduce an artificial intelligence platform that will aid the fleet owner, warehouse management specialist and freight brokerage as well as customers in tracking shipments.

Reading, Pa.-based Penske Logistics ranks No. 12 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.

The Penske Transportation Solutions unit also ranks No. 19 on TT’s Top 100 list of the largest logistics companies in North America.

As a dedicated truckload and refrigerated-TL and LTL-focused carrier, Penske Logistics operates more than 7,000 tractors and 20,000 trailers.

Penske is set to introduce the platform from Augment following a successful six-month pilot.

The technology is expected to boost Penske’s track and trace capabilities, providing an additional resource for capturing freight status data for customers.

The platform initiates outreach via a call, email or text when shipment status updates are not otherwise available.

Initially, Penske expects the AI tool to validate the status of an estimated 600,000 loads.

Penske anticipates seeing as much as a 30% to 40% productivity gain as the system erases routine, manual processes and enhances follow-up workflows with carrier dispatchers.

“We’re well underway with executing our AI strategy, and our partnership with Augment is one of many AI-related and tech-enabled supply chain initiatives we are implementing to enhance the experience for our customers,” said Jeff Jackson, president of Penske Logistics.

“AI at this scale is about giving customers more convenience, certainty and clarity in an increasingly complex and dynamic operating environment,” he added.

The platform connects with a carrier’s dispatch representatives via their preferred means. It also adapts to carriers’ preferred escalation path.

“We’re grateful for the trust Penske has placed in us and proud to partner with a team that understands the AI transformation in logistics is bigger than bolting on another tool — it’s an opportunity to rethink how work gets done,” said Harish Abbott, co-founder and CEO of Augment.

“That shift requires a logistics-native approach that works across the systems and channels teams already use, supports nuanced freight workflows end-to-end and gets smarter as it learns how the business actually runs,” Abbott added.

Augment’s existing customers include NFI, Hirschbach Motor Lines, Echo Global Logistics and Arrive Logistics. NFI and Hirschbach rank No. 16 and No. 58 on the for-hire TT100, respectively. Echo and Arrive rank No. 21 and No. 35 on the logistics Top 100, respectively.

Each of the Penske Transportation Solutions divisions — Penske Logistics and Penske Truck Leasing — is using AI to boost efficiencies.

Penske Truck Leasing’s Catalyst AI fleet management platform even has a Fantasy Fleet tool to rectify rolling stock or operations underperformance. Catalyst AI was launched in April 2024.

Some 70% of transportation companies reported adopting AI solutions in 2025, up 17 percentage points from 2024, according to Penske Truck Leasing’s 2025 Transportation Leaders Survey: A Road to AI Adoption study, which was released earlier in May.

The study found that the top six uses were vehicle performance, rate setting, fuel efficiency, vehicle utilization, benchmarking and maintenance.
