Operation addresses speeding concerns in Lancashire

Must read

Officers from Lancashire Police have been tackling speeding after concerns about road safety were raised by local residents.

On 13 June, officers were located at ten different sites in the Rossendale area, all of which had been identified as hotspots for concern on the police community messaging service Lancashire Talking.

The operation was throughout the day and into the evening, and resulted in the following:

  • 11 tickets issued for those speeding
  • Three tickets issued to those without wearing a seatbelt
  • Two traffic offence reports
  • 11 tickets issued for those driving through a red light
  • One vehicle seized under Section 59 for driving anti-socially
  • One vehicle seized under Section 165 for driving with no insurance

Six fixed penalty notices were also issued for offences such as insecure loads, illegally tinted windows and parking on solid white lines.

Police officers were also joined by Lancashire Parking Services to visit two locations, Bank Street in Rawtenstall and Dale Street in Haslingden, educating the public around the laws of parking their vehicles.

Paul Marsden, neighbourhood sergeant for Rossendale, said: “We have been told by our communities that speeding and road safety are real concerns for them. Once again it has been great to be out working with partners to tackle the issues that matter most to our residents.

“We will continue to actively work with them to address concerns of our communities and this day of action is just a small example of the kind of activity we do day-in-day-out.”
