Nokian Tyres has added to its North American leadership team with the addition of tire engineer Andy Abas as senior quality manager at its Dayton, TN factory. Abas succeeds Marcus Hancock, who now serves as senior manager of research and development for Nokian Tyres North America.
Abas will oversee the Dayton factory’s quality systems, including laboratory testing, inspections, and continuous process improvements.
“We are glad to welcome an experienced leader like Andy to spearhead our quality efforts,” said Dayton Factory Operations Director David Korda. “Our factory is part of the foundation for our growth in North America. Andy has the expertise we need to continue making reliable, safe tires that meet the highest standards of excellence.”
A 26-year veteran of the tire industry, Abas has built a career in quality management and engineering at several manufacturers. Most recently, he served as technical and quality director at Yokohama’s West Point, Mississippi facility. He led six technical departments: Quality assurance, quality control, tire engineering, product industrialization, compound engineering, and process engineering.
Nokian Tyres leadership said Abas’ expertise will drive continued improvements in product consistency, innovation, and safety at the Dayton plant.
From its Southeast Tennessee campus, Nokian Tyres produces millions of all-season, all-weather, and all-terrain tires each year for customers throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In 2020, the factory achieved ISO 9001 certification less than a year after opening and earned LEED v4 Silver certification.
