Mercedes-Benz Gateway Access Now Available on Autel Tablets

Must read

Mercedes-Benz gateway access is now officially available on Autel diagnostic tablets in North America. Mercedes-Benz USA has approved Autel and certified it through AutoAuth, granting access to the enhanced security gateway installed in select 2021 and newer models. This certification allows Autel users to perform operations such as diagnostics, active tests, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibrations.

Autel said its new capability includes diagnostic functions, special procedures, data flow analysis, and ADAS calibrations in body control modules. Users with an active Autel tablet subscription and a registered AutoAuth account can now access these systems.

“Autel’s goal is to provide technicians access to the latest critical functions to accurately and efficiently diagnose and repair their customers’ vehicles,” said Paul A. Marshall, director of product development for Autel U.S. “Autel users can now perform additional services, including ADAS calibrations, on the latest Mercedes vehicles.”

Mercedes-Benz Gateway Access

Starting in 2021, Mercedes-Benz integrated security gateway modules in many vehicles to protect critical systems against unauthorized access and cyber threats. Until recently, only factory diagnostic tools could interface with these secured systems.

Now, Autel becomes one of the few aftermarket brands certified by Mercedes-Benz USA for this access. The Mercedes-Benz gateway access applies to models including:

  • CLA (174, 178);
  • AMG GT (192);
  • C (206);
  • E (214);
  • S (223);
  • SL (232);
  • CLE (236);
  • GLC (254);
  • EQE (294, 295);
  • EQS (296, 297).

Additional OEM Support Through AutoAuth

Mercedes-Benz joins Nissan and Stellantis on the list of OEMs that allow Autel tablet access through AutoAuth. Technicians must register with AutoAuth, select the desired vehicle brands, and pay an annual fee per brand.

Autel said users can visit the AutoAuth portal to configure access. Once registered, technicians can perform diagnostics and calibrations previously restricted to OE tools.

Earlier this year, Autel negotiated gateway access with the Volkswagen/Audi Group. Technicians can purchase either a 24-hour single VIN access or a full-year unlimited VIN plan. This option adds flexibility for independent shops and mobile technicians servicing VW/Audi models, Autel said.
