Man Truck & Bus started the series production of electric trucks in his factory in Munich. On this occasion, CEO Alexander Vlaskamp announced that it is his ambition to produce 1000 by the end of 2025.
This is the result of an investment plan of a billion euros for the energy transition. In Munich, the electric trucks are assembled on the same production line as their counterparts with diesel engine. “This innovative concept is accompanied by major changes in the entire assembly line, but also in the supply chain and logistics,” explains Michael Kobriger (member of the Executive Council for Production and Logistics at MAN). “While combustion engines are first equipped with axes, tanks and exhaust systems, electric models get two batteries under the cabin and a powertrain called ‘Power Pack’.” More than 5000 employees are therefore trained in high -voltage technology, so that they can work on trucks with a combustion engine and electric trucks.
