The Flemish and international logistics sector mourns the death of Prof. Dr. Francis Rome. The renowned supply chain expert and former chairman of the Flemish Port Commission died at home last Thursday at the age of 77.
Francis Rome was an authority in world trade, logistics and port policy. As a professor at the Center for Maritime & Air Transport (C-MAT) of the University of Antwerp and as a bridge builder between academia, government and business, he left his mark on the sector for decades.
After an international academic education, with a PhD in International Economics from Johns Hopkins University (SAIS), Rome built an impressive career at Procter & Gamble, Quaker Oats and DHL, among others. At DHL he played a key role in the global expansion of the network, first as business development director and later as global commercial director.
He also left a lasting impression in Flanders. He was one of the founders of the VIL, where he stimulated innovation and international cooperation. As chairman of the Flemish Port Commission, he was committed to a sustainable and future-oriented port sector.
The Transportmedia team wishes his family and friends a lot of strength!
