The 1000th goods shuttle between the BASF site in Antwerp and Ludwigshafen is a fact. Freight operator Lineas, specialized in international railway freight transport, and chemical giant BASF thus celebrate an important milestone in their cooperation for sustainable transport.
Since May 2022, Lineas has been providing three daily train connections between the two industrial sites. These shuttles replace around 15,000 container transports every year and produce an estimated COâ‚‚ saving of 9,000 tons. The route, which runs over 500 kilometers, offers a reliable and safe alternative to trucks, which are increasingly confronted with congestion and emission restrictions.
The continuous deployment of this railing service fits within the broader European ambition to make freight transport more sustainable. Thanks to fixed time slots and efficient handling, the service fits in seamlessly with the logistics needs of the chemical industry.
