In recent months, Liege Airport has further developed the Master Plan that the airport growth must insure until 2040. During the Air Cargo Europe Fair in Munich, the Walloon airport announced an investment plan of 500 million euros that will give its freight infrastructure a new dimension.
The Cargoland project will be realized on the vast terrain of the former Kazerne de Cubber, northeast of the runways. 90 hectares will be intended for logistics development and 24 hectares will be available for the construction of offices. Liège Airport, in turn, invests in 15 new parking spaces for aircraft, a new hangar for aircraft maintenance and a new warehouse of 38,000 m² with direct access to the runways. A warehouse of 120,000 m² for e-commerce and a warehouse of 180,000 m² for storage will complete the installation. The airport also speaks about a far-reaching multimodal integration and a reinforcement of the railway, road and sea connections, but does not yet provide any details about the railway platform at this stage in recent months. The entire Cargoland project must be operational in 2040.
“This project is designed as the new generation of freight nodes and will enable Liege Airport to position itself as one of the three most important cargo airports in Europe. We already have all the characteristics of a prominent cargo airport, including a 24/7 operation, a strong cargo community, a cargo-oriented approach, experienced staff, so-called Digital Systems to,, to,, to the Systems,, to,, to the Systems,, to the Systems,,, but one of them.
