Liberty Tire Recycling Alabama Expansion

Must read

Liberty Tire Recycling announced plans to open two new facilities in Alabama following the state’s decision to end the landfilling of whole tires. A Mobile-area facility is scheduled to open in early 2026 to serve southern and central Alabama, while a second North Alabama site will be announced next year.

Liberty Tire Recycling said the Alabama expansion will produce tire-derived fuel (TDF). TDF is a low-emission energy source used by pulp and paper facilities and cement kilns. It is expected to create up to 60 jobs in the state. The northern location will also manufacture rubber feedstock that will be processed into crumb rubber for use in manufacturing.

“We are very excited to enhance the recycling footprint in Alabama,” said Thomas Womble, CEO of Liberty Tire Recycling. “Our new locations mean we are even better positioned to meet the needs and recycling initiatives of manufacturers and partners.”

Liberty Tire Recycling Alabama Facilities to Process 4 Million Tires

Liberty said its new Alabama footprint will give it the capacity to process more than 4 million tires annually. It will serve communities across Alabama, Mississippi and North Florida.

In 2024, Alabama began phasing out the landfilling of whole waste tires. It’s a practice still permitted only in Alabama among Southeastern states.

Liberty said it already collects and recycles waste tires from Alabama at its facilities in neighboring states. The new sites will allow closer partnerships with retailers, tire manufacturers and local governments to manage the millions of waste tires generated each year, Liberty said.

Tire-Derived Products and National Reach

In addition to tire-derived fuel, Liberty Tire Recycling produces consumer goods, asphalt mixes, rubber aggregate and playground materials made from recycled rubber. The company also supplies recycled rubber feedstock to U.S. manufacturers and steel wire for recycled steel products.

Liberty operates in every U.S. state, Puerto Rico and Western Canada, managing 60 facilities across North America. Its network supports partnerships with tire manufacturers, retailers, and state and local governments, it said.
