History will remember that it was a DAF XF Electric from Kuehne+Nagel that was the first electric truck to drive through the Channel Tunnel. This is the result of a project called eFreight 2030, which is supported by the UK government. The truck departed from Kuehne+Nagel’s East Midlands Gateway depot, where it was loaded with 12 tonnes of freight, and was destined for Kuehne+Nagel’s depot in Haiger, north of Frankfurt. To make this 1,700 kilometer journey, the two drivers charged the batteries at public charging points operated by Gridserve (United Kingdom) and Milence in Dunkirk (France) and Maasmechelen (Belgium).
