On September 10, Jo van Moer, CEO and founder of Van Moer Logistics, will receive a place in the prestigious Gallery of the Prominents of Voka-Chamber of Commerce Antwerp-Waasland. This makes him the 36th entrepreneur who can receive this special recognition.
The Gallery of the Prominenten has been awarding leading figures for more than 35 years who strengthen the international appearance of the region with their entrepreneurship, cultural or social contribution. Jo van Moer will follow in the company of, among others, Peter Piot, Dries van Noten, Vic Swerts, the founders of Tomorrowland and last year Michel Moortgat from Duvel-Moortgat.
According to managing director Luc Luwel, Van Moer was nominated “because of his unlikely Entrepreneurship, his infectious enthusiasm and his strong engagement in the region”.
From one truck to global player
What started with one truck in 1990 grew under the leadership of Jo van Moer and his wife Anne Verstraeten into an international logistics group. Today Van Moer Logistics has more than 500 trucks, 15 inland vessels, 40 locations, 850,000 m² warehouse space and more than 2,200 employees. The group recently expanded to China and Qatar, in the context of its international strategy.
For Jo van Moer, the recognition means a lot: “This nomination is a huge honor that I accept with great gratitude. It is a valuable recognition of an organization that has been an anchor point for entrepreneurship in and around Antwerp for years.”
