Jacobs Transport opens new construction in Genk

Must read

Jacobs Transport has opened a new location in Logistics Valley Flanders, on the former Ford site in Genk. It is an investment of 7 million euros. The expansion must eventually yield 50 extra jobs.

The company was founded in 1934 by Albert Jacobs and grew into a fixed value in the Limburg transport sector. Since 2008 it has been in the hands of Francis Paulussen (passenger transport) and Bart Tilmans (freight transport), who in 2014 brought the companies in new buildings on the Zuiderring in Genk. In 2022 they chose to each take their own course, which resulted in this new location for freight transport in Logistics Valley Flanders.

Opposite ‘Port of Limburg’

“We are directly opposite ‘Port of Limburg’, that is a great added value for our activity,” says Bart Tilmans, CEO of Jacobs Transport. “We have used about half of our site of 4.2 hectares. We keep the other two hectare free for future activities. This can be an extension of our current services or a completely new niche, whether or not in a partnership with an external party. Everything is still open to us here.”

The new building comprises an office building of two floors with 400 m² and a workshop of 1,200 m² with Keurstraat, Maintenance workshop, tire magazine, tank installation and car wash. “We have more space and comfort here for our employees and more and better parking spaces for our cars.”

Jacobs Transport today has around 140 employees and wants to expand that number to 190 within five years. The fleet consists of 110 tractors and 300 trailers. The company focuses on transport in the Benelux, Germany and Northern France, including for customers in industry, construction, petrochemical and food sector. The company achieved a profit of 606,309 euros last year.
