Key Takeaways:

  • IMC Logistics will open a Toronto drayage facility, its first location outside the United States.
  • The Toronto facility is expected to be fully operational in the second quarter of 2026.
  • IMC is exploring acquisitions to expand fleet capacity while continuing upgrades at other North American sites.

IMC Logistics will open a Toronto drayage facility, the Collierville, Tenn.-based carrier’s first expansion outside the United States.

The facility is intended to boost IMC’s ability to support cross-border freight shipments as well as offering domestic marine drayage in Canada.

“This expansion is part of an effort to better support Canadian shippers who are broadening their sourcing strategies to stay competitive,” IMC CEO Joel Henry said in comments accompanying the March 5 announcement. “The resulting rise in containerized volumes positions IMC to deepen its partnerships with current customers and capitalize on new growth opportunities.”

The facility will be fully up and running in the second quarter of 2026.

IMC ranks No. 53 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America and No. 5 on the intermodal/drayage list.

Henry told Transport Topics in an email March 6 that the initial staff head count will be small, but IMC expects that to grow quickly.

IMC is in the middle of finalizing a lease for the new facility, Henry said, and expects initially to be able to utilize in-house rolling stock as well as partner capacity, if needed.

“We are also exploring potential acquisitions that would provide immediate fleet growth in Toronto,” the company’s top executive said.

IMC has 48 locations in North America, including the Toronto facility.

Prior to opening the Toronto office, the last addition to the IMC portfolio was a Mobile, Ala., facility in October.

IMC owns the Mobile facility rather than leases it. The company bought the land for the 12-acre operation and built a 3,300-square-foot office and a secure 24/7 yard with room for 500 containers. Blake Lamparter heads the office.

The company also is nearing the end of a revamp of its Newark, N.J., facility. The site’s yard was upgraded with new concrete and a load lift for stacking empty and loaded containers, said Henry, while the buildout of the warehouse is complete and fully operational.

IMC is currently building new office space, which would complete the facility renovation, he added.
