On 13 October 2025, Hwa Fong Rubber Ind. Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary Hwa Fong Rubber (USA), Inc. signed an Asset Purchase Agreement with Sumitomo Rubber USA, LLC to purchase the latter’s Tonawanda tyre plant in New York, USA. The Taiwan-based company says it aims to establish a tyre production base in the United States in response to US tariffs, anti-dumping/countervailing duties, and global market shifts.
