H&M Logistics wants to close its logistics site in Ghlin, near Bergen. The company announced this today at an extraordinary works council, the Christian trade union CSC reported in a press release. There is a threat of collective dismissal for the 440 employees at the site.
Today, the distribution center in Ghlin plays an important role in the supply of Southern Europe for the Swedish fashion chain Hennes & Mauritz, better known as H&M. According to the company, the fashion sector has been under heavy pressure for several years due to an increasingly competitive market and rapidly changing circumstances.
To strengthen its position in this challenging context, H&M wants to restructure its logistics organization in Southern Europe. The activities of the center in Ghlin would be closed down and integrated into other logistics hubs of the group. This concerns the sites in Torrejón (Spain) and Casalpusterlengo (Italy).
According to H&M, this reorganization is necessary to remain competitive and to ensure the long-term continuity of activities. The announcement marks the start of the so-called Renault procedure, which is initiated in the event of a collective dismissal.
