Just over a month after setting a new EV land speed record, BYD returned to the track equipped with GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro tires. On Aug. 8, the team reached 472.41 kph (293.54 mph) at Germany’s Automotive Testing Papenburg (ATP) proving grounds. On Sept. 14, armed with a set of GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro tires, the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme (U9X) hypercar shattered the production-car top-speed world record. It achieved 496.22 kph (308.33 mph), a 23.81 km/h increase over the August test.
German track specialist Marc Basseng piloted the U9X, while Giti engineers supported the run on-site.
GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro Tires Technology
Giti said the tires were purpose-built for extreme EV demands. They feature:
- Molecular chain optimization: Reinforced rubber compounds for stability at high speeds.
- Ultra-high-strength aramid fibers: Enhanced load-bearing capacity.
- Next-gen racing profile: Optimized geometry for even pressure distribution.
- RaceGrip Pro formulation: Grip increased by 38%, with a wider temperature range.
- Anti-standing wave structure: Prevents deformation at ultra-high speeds.
- Fast warm-up additives: Cuts warm-up time by 60%.
- Bionic sidewall design: Improves responsiveness and cornering.
According to Giti, the tires are certified to CCC/ECE regulations, placing them alongside other players in the street-legal semi-slick segment.
“It is an honor to be here, in person, to witness this great milestone achievement for our valued partner, BYD,” said Andy Ng, general manager for original equipment manufacturing for export markets. “Giti is proud to have partnered with BYD for this project. We are committed to continuously pushing the boundaries of sustainable performance collaboratively.”
